About

Founded by twin sisters, Lichen and Liyang Zhang, their studio began as a private exchange. Since childhood, their first impulse to create was for each other, building a world of objects that belonged only to them. The exchange of gifts, small, precious, often improvised, was the simplest way to express themselves deeply.

What once lived only between them is now carried outward through the work you find here. Each piece holds the same spirit of dialogue: thoughtful but playful, elegant yet unguarded. They are drawn to the act of making by hand, whatever the medium, and to the surprise that comes when process leads the way. They work from our home studios in Toronto and New York, spanning clothing, ceramics, architecture, digital design, and food.

Their practice remains rooted in a love of natural materials and a curiosity about how they shift through touch, time, and translation. They keep our approach open-ended, provisional, and shaped by improvisation and play.
